Shootin' Straight

Let's just get real. No vacation is ever really a vacation when I have 2 kids under 4, and a husband NOT on vacation with me. We are in TX until the 21, while Wes is in Burbank doing his thing. Initially we agreed that I would need a break from all this single mom parenting I do while Wes is in school. So a visit to my parents' house sounded like an ideal break. But really all that does is invite opportunities for Finn to decide he needs me at all times, even more than normal. So you'll have to excuse the serious lack of blogging. I'm not joking when I say that by the time Finn falls asleep at about 9, we're all too exhausted to function. Between an almost walking Maya, and Tazmanian Finn, we're counting the hours until bedtime everyday. It's crazy ridiculous. Don't these kids know we're on vacay?! Apparently they didn't get the memo, b/c we all arrived with colds, which immediately turned into a sinus infection for Maya and a chest X Ray for Finn. And Finn on steroids=pure hell! That boy on Prednisone is my idea of sheer torture.

On the bright side, Maya is heart-meltingly adorable, per the usual (even if she is fearless to her detriment). And Finn has had shining moments fishing, going to the Zoo, and riding on a tractor. And my parents have created a little bowling alley outside for him, made a chalkboard for his artistic amusement, and make or bring in delicious Finn-friendly meals every night (whether or not he eats them is another thing entirely). Today he's finally starting to come out of his sick and medicated totally bonkers fits of weirdness. So I am really hoping he'll find a groove over the next week and a half. Otherwise I might have to ship him home while I stay and enjoy the lake view! (Just kidding future Finn who's reading this...although you're messin' with Karma, kid!)

Signing off from my teeny iPhone keypad--as I lay next to Finn, who magically knows when I try to get out of bed and go downstairs for some relaxing. "Mooooooommmmaaaaaaaa! No relaxing!!!"

I can definitely empathize with you! Hang in there. My husband and I have decided that any vacations we go on with the kids belong to THEM, not us. For parents it's nothing but work, work, work!
