Vanity Fair.

The hair is the richest ornament of women. ~Martin Luther

Hair brings one's self-image into focus; it is vanity's proving ground. Hair is terribly personal, a tangle of mysterious prejudices. ~Shana Alexander

Well, my hair is pretty unexciting these days. What is it with us women and our hair? Bad breakup? Cut it! Worry that our boyfriend or husband won't like it short? Grow it out! I usually don't fret too much over my locks (or lack thereof at the moment). I am generally happy with my hair. And Wes loves it short, which makes me so happy, I can't even tell you. I hated hearing from guys in college, "Why is your hair so short...you like guys, right?" Really?? That is what you are going to say to me if I have pixie hair? ("Not that there's anything wrong with that." --The Office) Talk about stereotyping. I was a pretty cute pixie, if I do say so myself.

Like I mentioned in my sidebar poll, my hair has fallen victim to the effects of maternal hormones, and is currently causing me mild hysteria in the shower every morning. I try to touch my hair as little as possible as a means of encouraging it to stay where it belongs. On my head.

So the poll is split exactly evenly (the two choices that count, that is). I do don a hat regularly. And I am not going to "grow out my tresses." I put that in there for a giggle. I have awful long hair. It's flat, boring, lifeless. (But I still suspect one sister-in-law of mine of voting for that one...) 17 of you say "Lovingly Maintain My Brown Bob." 17 more of you say "Go Pixie Again."

So what to do? Well, I wasn't actually going to let that poll determine what I ultimately do with my hair. But it was fun to see what you all said! For now, I'll keep it as-is. Unless it drives me to the breaking point. And then you might meet Pixie Me again.

Guess you'll just have to wait and see! :)

Here are some shots of my hair over the past few years. Pardon the vanity.

Just after Finn was born.

Pixie Me.

Growing it out again.

And here we are....

...hat and all.

(Notice the 2 times Finn appears in this post he's got that darned pacifier in his mouth! I've GOT to deal with that problem...we're working on it.)

I plan on trying the 'binky fairy' if Axel won't give up the dummy by 18 months... we'll see. I'm sure you've heard that idea before.

I always LOVEd your pixie hair, a cut I wish I could get away with, but my face can't pull it off. Of course I love the bob too, which is my cut of choice right now as well. speaking of which I need a cut!

You look great in all those styles! I definitely prefer, though, the current look. It's cute, modern, hip, and brings out your beautiful face. (not that the others don't) And, you'd never know you were "shedding". My shedding is going on 4 weeks now and it just seems to be getting worse each day! I'm most traumatized when I get out of the shower and dry off...that's when it all comes out in clumps. AAAGGGHH!

It's bizarre how your look can change so much with a hair cut. That top pic totally looks like Ann Curry!

good luck and remember, hair does eventually stop falling out after baby. thank goodness!

Fortunately for you your hair looks amazing at any of those lengths. personally I prefer longer hair b/c I love being able to pull it back, pin it up... stuff like that. It seems like you love accessories, and you might have more options with longer hair. But, I know longer hair can be quite a pain, and with two little ones... well, you know what is easiest for your schedule. My vote? Keep it long! And post lots of pics on how you accessorize it!

Cute! Cute! Cute! I love short hair!! I go back and forth between growing it out and chopping it off. You really can't beat a pixie cut for style and ease though! Long or short, you are gorgeous!!

Well I didn't vote - but today I say go pixie again! It's adorable and would make your life easier. Presumably?

I think you look gorgeous either way!

I would LOVE to able to have my hair short and look as great as you do! I all about hair freedom! (stupid boys) I was actually surprised to see the pic with the shoulder length hair - I've never seen you with such long locks! I love the pixie do!

You look pretty however you wear it :) And don't worry about the pacifier - he won't wear it to kindergarten. Abbott used one intermittently until he was four and it just stopped as he wanted to be a bigger boy.

are you still on prenatal vitamins? if you've stopped, start them up again and it should help alleviate the hair loss. you can just get the over-the-counter ones.

ps, your hair looks adorable in all the pics.

I think your hair looks great in all those pictures- you are lucky to have such a cute, well shaped face! Mine is huge so short hair is not a good option, I've given in to the long straight style I've had about 95% of my life, and it usually ends up pulled back anyways!

Oh my gosh...all three styles looked great on you. But that pixie cut...Oh me Oh my! Absolutely darling. I envy you. I would love to be able to pull it off and look that cute and girly! I voted pixie....just so you know.

I sadly have very little hair and it tends to fall out when I'm in the middle of a stressful period. Thanks to a helpful hairdresser I discovered the vitamin Biotin - it isn't a cure all, but it seems to help.

And I love the pixie - I'm trying to work up the nerve to go that short myself.

Truly a topic close to the heart of all free-thinking women.
Was I by chance the sister-in-law in referral? I just love it when you do the "flip it"! That's all!
It looks gorgeous short, and the medium mussed Jackie-O cannot be beat. All choices are winners.
