Little Champ

Finn is doing so great. Everyday his X-Rays get better and better. Today they took off most of his bandages, so we got to check out his scars from surgery/chest tubes. He's a total pincushion, though! A Finncushion. He's been poked more times by needles and scalpels and tubes. Poor guy. Today he is sitting up in his crib and laughing and playing!! It's so wonderful. He started physical therapy, b/c he has to build his chest expansion and basic physical strength back up. They said he will probably have negative associations with hospitals for a long time (duh). But they suggested bringing him to the hospital when the new baby is born. It's a different hospital, and hopefully will replace some negative associations with happier ones. He's still a bit puffy all over from all of the IV meds and just lying around. But he looks a little more like the Finn we know and love everyday. Gotta go play with the boy! Oh thank goodness. :)

I hopefully will have a photo report tomorrow spanning from before surgery to now. Even I am astonished at the progress. I think I have already started to repress some of the initial memories of how he looked after surgery, and that was only a week ago. Looking through my camera, I was shocked to remember how he looked. It's amazing what the body will do to heal, emotionally and physically! In my case, the first sight of Finn feeling better pushes those awful days down to some recesses of my memory. In Finn's case, a few days of no tubes and finally "rounding that corner" have produced an ecstatic 2 year old (and ecstatic family members, to boot!).

Fingers crossed to be home by Christmas!

Hey, Anne just told me about your blog and forwarded Wes's description of staying at the hospital. His writing was beautiful and clever--and an exact description of how I often feel at the NICU right now.

I'm happy to know I'm not the only one who takes comfort in sending descriptions into the black void of the internet, and like Wes, hope I'll eventually help someone else by doing so.

Thanks for sharing your story--and for being so creative about it. I am so happy he's on the mend. I'll add you to my prayers.

Little Finn knows what he is doing. He was just resting until he realized that presents are coming snapped out of it and is ready for some Christmas!

P.S. A Finncushion is at the top of my list this year! Except I would like mine to come with a full belly, for extra softness, wiggly toes, and a little laugh.

Oh thank goodness! This post is what I've been waiting and praying for this whole time. Progress. Yea Finn! So wait, are you still not allowed to have visitors because of the whole TB scare thing?
